Lions and Tigers and Alligators? Oh My!

So I thought the snakes were bad at the lake but an alligator is worse!! Yesterday at church our second counselor, who is the chief of police, had to leave sacrament meeting to take a call. He announced that Herman Baker Park, home of Pickens lake, where we went fishing and I lost my 14 year old, would be closed because of a confirmed sighting of a 6 foot alligator. What the heck? I don't live in Florida. Apperantly a man was fishing on the south side of the lake (this is where we were fishing), casting out his line, when he heard something behind him. He turned around and the alligator lunged at his leg. Needless to say he dropped everything and took off running. The fish and game department came out and could see the alligator eating a fish. They are setting traps tonight to try to capture it. I don't think I'm going to let the kiddos wander off alone around that park anymore!!!

Daniel got to go camping the last two weekends. First he went to Slippery Falls scout camp in Oklahoma. While we go hail and lots of rain they had a little wind. He was able to catch some fish, however he only brought home his big black crappie.

This weekend he was at camp James Ray for his Order of the Arrow ordeal. He had lots of fun and came home exhausted!

Isabelle has had a busy month. She is in the Symphonic Band at her high school and they had their UIL competition. They received ones on their performance and on their sight reading. I think that they were one of two bands that did that. They sounded wonderful. (Don't watch the video, you might get motion sickness, just listen to it. I know that it is terrible, but I didn't have a tripod and my arm was getting tired!) She also had tryouts for leadership positions for next year's marching season and she was made section leader. Hip Hip Hurray!!

I also had a great Mother's Day. Aimee and Dennis and the kiddos came over and we had brisket. Aimee said I had attoned for the horrible "ham jerky Easter dinner". It is so fun to just get to visit and have the kiddos play.

  1. I just checked and saw that you posted. Wow Isabelle's school band sounds great! I'm glad Daniel is sticking with scouts, how long until he'll be working on his Eagle?--and what a shock about the alligator. I can't believe it has been there very long or someone would have seen it before! Anyways, looking forward to visiting with Vincente. Is he driving or flying? Let me know if I need to pick him up.
